"Tropical Cyclone Freddy leaves a trail of devastation and death in Malawi"

0

Tropical Cyclone Freddy has caused destruction in southern Malawi, leaving over 326 people dead and many more missing. The Chilobwe township was one of the hardest-hit areas as it saw water, rocks and trees gushing down from a hill, causing mudslides. The Malawi Ministry of Natural Resources and Climate Change reported that although the cyclone was weakening, it would continue to cause heavy rains and winds in most parts of Southern Malawi districts, leading to the threat of heavy flooding and damaging winds. Rescue efforts have been affected by the weather, making the situation more dire, and many people have been left without shelter, blankets or even clothes. The situation has also worsened in Mozambique, where the cyclone has broken records for the longest-lasting storm of its kind, leaving at least 10 people dead and 13 injured in the Zambezia province. More than 22,000 people have been displaced by the tropical storm.
