On Friday, India's Union Minister for Coal, Mines, and Parliamentary Affairs, Pralhad Joshi, and Australia's Minister for Resources and Northern Australia, Madeleine King, held bilateral talks and identified five target projects for the mining of lithium and cobalt, according to a statement from India's Ministry of Mines. The partnership aims to develop supply chains between the two countries and build new supply chains for critical minerals processed in Australia to help India achieve its goals of lowering emissions and becoming a global manufacturing hub for electric vehicles. The India-Australia Critical Minerals Investment Partnership will seek to deepen cooperation and extend existing commitments, with investments aiming to secure mutually beneficial critical mineral supply chains. The partnership has identified two lithium and three cobalt target projects for detailed due diligence, with Australia being the world's second-largest producer of cobalt and almost half of the world's lithium.
