"AI Chatbot Makes History in Indian Court by Assisting in Bail Application Decision"

0

Hey there! Exciting news! The Punjab and Haryana Court in India recently made history by using an AI chatbot named ChatGPT to assist in a bail application in a criminal case. It's the first time a court in India has used an AI chatbot for this purpose.

The case was about an individual who was taken into custody in June 2020 for charges of criminal conspiracy, murder, rioting, and criminal intimidation. Justice Anoop Chitkara led the bench and requested ChatGPT's feedback during the hearing.

To evaluate the global perspective on bail in a murder case, Justice Anoop Chitkara asked ChatGPT the question, "What is the legal precedent regarding bail in cases where attackers have committed brutal acts?" ChatGPT provided a thorough response consisting of three paragraphs on the legal principles regarding bail in such scenarios.

However, the court explicitly stated that any mention of ChatGPT or comments related to it did not constitute an expression of opinion on the case's merits. Additionally, the court instructed the trial court to disregard any observations associated with ChatGPT's response.

It's worth mentioning that ChatGPT is an AI chatbot developed by OpenAI that uses NLP and machine learning to generate human-like responses. It's one of the largest language models in existence, with a vast amount of text data training.

In conclusion, Artificial Intelligence (AI) refers to the development of computer systems that can perform tasks that would normally require human intelligence, such as learning, problem-solving, decision-making, and perception.
