According to Ookla's Speedtest Global Index, both mobile and fixed broadband speeds in India saw improvement in April compared to previous months. The median mobile speed in the country surged from 33.30 to 36.35 Mbps, elevating India's mobile internet speed ranking by four positions, from 64th to 60th.
Meanwhile, median fixed broadband speeds in India saw a slight growth, reaching 51.12 Mbps in April from 50.71 Mbps in March. This advancement resulted in India climbing from the 83rd position to the 84th spot, as reported by The Week.
While Qatar secured the top spot for mobile internet speeds, Singapore maintained its leadership in fixed broadband speed.
Ookla, a renowned Seattle-based firm specializing in connection analytics and network insights, publishes the Speedtest Global Index on a monthly basis. This index assesses mobile and fixed broadband speeds worldwide and is widely recognized as the authoritative source in the field. The data used for the Global Index is derived from millions of tests conducted each month by real users utilizing Speedtest to evaluate their internet performance.
According to the April Speedtest Global Index, Senegal experienced the most significant improvement in mobile internet speeds, climbing 16 ranks globally. In terms of fixed broadband speeds, Bahrain made remarkable progress, advancing 14 spots.
India's ascent in the mobile internet speed rankings has been remarkable in recent months, especially considering its previous ranking of 105. The country rapidly rose to 69th place in January and further climbed to 67th place in February, likely driven by the development of 5G networks across India.
Additional highlights from the Speedtest Global Index revealed that Senegal witnessed the largest jump in rankings, securing a remarkable increase of 16 spots internationally. Qatar claimed the top position for the world's median mobile speeds, while Bahrain saw a notable advancement of 14 positions in terms of fixed broadband speeds. Singapore, once again, retained its top spot in the category of overall global fixed median speeds.
