Exciting news in the world of finance! Ajay Banga, an Indian-American and former CEO of Mastercard, has been nominated for the position of President at the World Bank. The nomination period for the position closed on March 29th, and Banga is the only candidate in the running. This means that he will be considered for the prestigious role, and a formal interview will be conducted with him in Washington DC.


US President Joe Biden nominated Banga to lead the World Bank in February, noting that he is uniquely equipped for the job. Biden highlighted Banga's more than three decades of experience building and managing successful global companies, creating jobs and bringing investment to developing economies. He also praised his ability to guide organizations through periods of fundamental change and to partner with global leaders around the world to deliver results.

Banga has become a global leader in technology, data, financial services, and innovating for inclusion. He is currently Vice Chairman at General Atlantic and serves as the honorary Chairman of the International Chamber of Commerce. He has worked closely with US Vice President Harris as the Co-Chair of the Partnership for Central America and is a member of the Trilateral Commission.


Banga has been recognized for his many accomplishments, including being awarded the Padma Shri Award by the President of India in 2016, the Ellis Island Medal of Honor, and the Business Council for International Understanding's Global Leadership Award in 2019. He is a co-founder of The Cyber Readiness Institute and served as a member of President Obama's Commission on Enhancing National Cybersecurity.
