Last year, Tesla had sought India's agreement to reduce the high import taxes imposed on cars, which can soar up to a staggering 100%. However, the Indian government insisted that the carmaker must manufacture vehicles locally if it wished to establish a substantial presence in the country. The differing perspectives on this matter resulted in a deadlock during the previous discussions between Tesla and Indian authorities.
Interestingly, during the recent discussions, Tesla did not delve into the topic of import taxes, but instead focused on its proposal to establish a new factory.
